Former Arsenal star opens new games area

A new pitch for young people living in Woodberry Down was unveiled last week by a former Arsenal star and the Mayor of Hackney.

Mayor Phillip Glanville was joined by Jeremie Aliadiere, who spent eight years at Arsenal, and club mascot Gunnersaurus at the new-look multi-use games area (MUGA) in Newnton Close.

They were joined by a number of youngsters from the area who played a football match, earned medals and took penalties against Gunnersaurus.

The MUGA improvement was a joint project between Woodberry Down Regeneration Partners, which include Notting Hill Genesis, Arsenal, contractors Purdy, Wates and Kier, as well as Herts Heritage.

It is now open to the public.
