New kitchen at Norfolk homeless scheme is out of this world!
A Notting Hill Genesis (NHG) supported scheme in Norfolk has had a new kitchen fitted completely free of charge thanks to…people from Mars!
The entire kitchen including units, cupboards, sink and draining board has been replaced and there are two brand new cookers. It was designed by another Mars Inc employee, Jamie Hudson.
Pat Burch said: “Mars is a family run business and part of their ethos is to give back to local communities and that's why projects like this one are created.
“Thanks to NHG, my sister is now successfully living independently. The new kitchen was my way of saying thank you for the work that the staff at Astwell House have done and continue to do.”
Mars also arranged a barbecue for all Astwell Road residents and staff to celebrate the new kitchen’s completion.
Nick Thomas, NHG care and support project worker at Astwell House, said: “We use cooking activities as a way for residents to engage with staff, and to learn cooking skills and food hygiene as part of preparing for living independently.
“This is a great example of community spirit and people giving up their time to help others and express their gratitude for the service that we provide.”
